The Gow's Story
The Gow’s Frig-Air story has followed a time-tested formula for success. Beginning as a home-based service business in 1964 by Donald Gow, the early years saw slow and steady growth based on the simple application of honesty, hard work, and fair treatment for all their customers.
By 1978 it was time to expand and retail operations commenced at 673 King Street. A 2500 sq ft showroom provided the opportunity to showcase a wide selection of appliances from leading manufacturers. In-home service and delivery continued as key elements of the Gow’s business strategy.
Ten years later in 1988 it was time to expand again, this time moving to 641 King Street (previously occupied by Gow’s Home Hardware). Now with a 15,000 sq ft showroom, the company was able to branch into the home furnishings market, a natural and complementary addition to their appliance lines. By joining the “Home” Furniture organization in 1994 the company was further able to benefit from superior buying power and an expanded distribution network.
In 1996, an opportunity existed to add yet another core product family to their existing offerings with the creation of a home electronics department. As with the furniture division, Gow’s is a member of the AVU Electronics Group, joining the program in 2003, which provides national level supports such as a price-match guarantee. The AVU affiliation allows Gow’s to remain highly price competitive in the home and consumer electronics marketplace.
Today, Bill, Julie, and Jeff Gow along with a dedicated and professional team, carry on the family tradition. Headquartered in Bridgewater, they can service the entire South Shore marketplace as well as the Halifax Metro area.
