 Comfort At Home: Room Air ConditioningCarrier Room Air Conditioning products are sized by cooling capacity in Btus per hour. To estimate the optimum capacity for any room, first calculate the size of the area to be air-conditioned by multiplying its width times its length, measured in feet. Look on the range below that corresponds to your room area. The Btu/Hr figures given below represent the estimated optimum for your room space. These cooling capacities are based on rooms with average insulation, number of windows and sun exposure, occupied routinely by two persons. To adapt the table for your specific conditions, modify the capacity figures as follows: Reduce capacity by 10% if area is heavily shaded Increase capacity by 10% for very sunny areas Add 600 Btu/Hr for each additional person if area is occupied routinely by more than two people. Add 4,000 Btu/Hr if area is a kitchen |
